An O'Levels Student's Guide to Surviving High School

Do You Want To Survive School + Get Good Grades in CIES?

Life goes on, what can you do? Wrong. It's your life, learn to take control of what's happening around you with confidence; however, leave things on Allah as well because results are not in your hands but of course, you have to try your best. Let's start off with studying because it's always this dreaded thing that keeps us awake at nights. Here are some tips that are foolproof and you can definitely increase your grade by a hefty 35% (according to research) by following these tips that proved successful for me.

1. Do Past Papers (Priority: High)
O levels is all about how many past papers you do because practice makes perfect, more specifically, this technique is called active recall because you are applying your knowledge by writing answers that you studied. Additionally, there is a high possibility of some questions repeating so get your act straight.

2. Make time for revision

Ah! Studying on the last day, something that we are all accustomed to. STOP THAT HABIT. Get everything done beforehand so that you can take the day before to revise everything that needs to be done or is highly probable to come in the exams.

3. Make notes

Notes are an important part of what you need to survive high school, be careful that you take good care of them and those pages are not flying out of your binder or are crumpled up in your backpack.

So, by now I have given you the tips every teacher gives you to survive the first week and make you feel a bit at home when you need to take time for yourself. Here are some student tips that can get you places around the student life.

1. Take 5 minute breaks only

2. STOP USING SOCIAL MEDIA 24 HOURS

3. POWERNAPS ARE THE ELAICHI TO YOUR CHAI

4. Chat with your friends when necessary

5. REVISE. REVISE. REVISE

6. Have at least 7 hours of sleep

7. See if the Pomodoro technique works for you

8. Get digital if it helps (more on that later)

9. Have a serious study group with friends

Getting digital (the dos and don'ts of life):

So, you want to get digital, that's alright. You'll be needing a whole lot of equipment and memory (computer) to get everything in its right place. I personally find getting digital a little tricky because typing in notes is the worst kind of problem to come since majority of the students will find investing in a stylus useless. However, being the tech savvy person I am, Beenish Saeed, will recommend to you some laptops that you can buy + tablets that will help you go digital and find familiarity in the tech world for studying.

1. Microsoft Surface Laptop 3

2. Apple Macbook Air 2014-2020
Available on OLX and https://www.apple.com/

3. Dell XPS 13

4. Microsoft Surface Tablet

5. Apple IPad (Pro, Mini, Air) Check compatibility with pencil

Here is my complete guide for you guys to get in the study mode and my next blog will be about the student life as a whole which includes chilling and the baby girl, Instagram. Au revoir friends!
